Design Tips From Our Newest Team Member
Thursday Oct 24 2024

It’s a happy day! We get to introduce you to our newest team member at The Black Goose Design, Shauna Shaffer. With more than 10 years of experience and expertise, Shauna truly knows how to capture her clients’ unique styles and needs.

Let’s get to know a bit more about Shauna and look at some of her past work.

Q. What is it you love most about this work?

A. I truly enjoy getting to know and collaborating with my clients to understand and bring their unique vision to life. I love witnessing their excitement as their dreams for their space come to fruition.

Q. Do you have a favorite design style or trend right now?

A. I appreciate different aspects of all design styles so it’s hard to choose a favorite. I love incorporating natural elements like stone, wood, and cane to any design. The variety of the natural materials and textures creates a harmonious warmth and can beautify the space. Trends can be super fun, but I like to incorporate them in a way that maintains a traditional and timeless approach that helps the design stay relevant over time.

Q. Do you have a go to tip for someone looking to make a quick update to their home?

A. The fastest way to give a home or space an updated, elevated look is by refreshing accessories and throw pillows. For an even greater transformation, new paint and updated lighting can make a significant impact on the overall feel of the space.

Q. Do you have a favorite lighting style?

A. My style leans a little more timeless and traditional with subtle touches of modern flair like a classic chandelier with a contemporary curve or a mix of metals. I’m also drawn to fixtures that incorporate natural materials, which add warmth and character to the design.

Q. You mentioned paint as another go to idea to try when wanting an update. Any tips to try?

A. Color drenching is a great way to transform a space. This is when the walls, ceiling, and trim are painted in a single, typically moody hue. Moody tones are definitely trending right now and can add a striking, sophisticated, elevated vibe to any room.

Q. Do you have a favorite part of your design work?

A. I truly enjoy curating fabric combinations, blending colors and textures to create a unique style. In design there are no strict rules, it really comes down to personal preference. For a more harmonious look, I often start with a pattern that incorporates the chosen color palette, then layer in large and small scale patterns, solids, and geometric designs to create a cohesive blend of fabrics and textures that will complement each other.

Q. What is your favorite area of the home to work on?

A. It’s hard to choose a favorite area to design—I truly love it all! Adding detail to any space through fabrics and textures brings such depth and personality. From upholstery and throw pillows to bedding or a wallpaper accent to window treatments, each choice offers endless creative potential. It’s these details that really make a space feel inviting and complete.

Q. What is your favorite color scheme at the moment?

A. I love a neutral palette that can be enhanced with pops of color. This a versatile approach I often recommend to my clients. Starting with a neutral foundation makes it easy to incorporate preferred colors or switch them out over time.

Q. What color(s) makes you happy?

A. I've always been drawn to blues. Blue is a classic, timeless color that is so versatile. It’s a staple color that I've used for years and never seem to tire of

Q. Any other must-haves at the moment?

A. I love the wood tones that we are seeing more of. Blonde woods and deep walnut browns are currently trending and both options provide a rich, elevated feel to any space.

Q. Any parting words?

A. I’m thrilled to join the Black Goose Design team! I am passionate about creating unique, warm, and inviting spaces, and I look forward to collaborating with our amazing clients.
